Culture is also popular culture in a region which has a strong identity, in the heart of the Alps and in the heart of the canton of Valais. You’ll see traces of this history in the Grand-Lens Museum, you’ll understand more about transhumance by visiting the Colombire Alp Museum, or the place of wine in this region where vines wind along the hills stretching up the mountainside. Guides are on hand if you want to understand the real soul of the Haut Plateau region.
The Pierre Arnaud Foundation in the neighbouring village of Lens, hopes to raise the status of Swiss painting, comparing it to important international trends. It also aims to compare ancient and modern civilisations. With its glass façade, which reflects the waters of Lake Louché, the Foundation’s art centre dedicates an area of 1000m2 to exhibitions on two levels.
For all ages
Music is very much present in Crans-Montana, which offers a classical music season with concert events and high level violin Master Classes, as well as the Caprices festival which welcomes international stars - rock, electro, singers etc. Not far away, it's worth noting the concerts held by the famous Tibor Varga music academy, which have been held every summer for over half a century in Sion, and also the concerts at the Château Mercier in Sierre.
The Crans-Montana library offers a wide selection of books, and books for children too. And the 3D cinema, Cinécran, shows all the latest big films. Finally, the Swiss Model Railway Foundation will fascinate kids, from under 7s to the over 77s.
