The Escape

If you are looking for privacy this contemporary home is set within a 2 acre garden and is enclosed by the haciendas original 10-foot wall creating your own private world! Walk out of the living area on one side and you will find a terrace with a 30 foot lily pool and to the other side a wonderful infinity swimming pool terrace and palapa [for those moments to kick back in the shade].

If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic private world Mérida is a vibrant and cultural city, surrounded by an abundance of beautiful colonial buildings, museums, art galleries, restaurants, and shops. THE Plantation is also perfectly situated within 30 minutes of many historical Mayan sites, including Chichen Itza which has just been named one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World!

Getting about - there are taxis available from Mérida airport to THE Plantation. There are also tour and transportation services that you can hire but having a car and being independent is part of the experience! We are located amidst an array of cenotes, convents and ruins and getting from sight to sight is not difficult by car.

Time Zone - Central Time (GMT -06:00) - the same as Chicago, Minneapolis and Houston

THE help if need be -.The housekeeper will make the beds, clean the house, do the dishes daily and change the bed linen every 3 days and the pool is cleaned daily. This is to assist you to help make your time at THE Plantation more pleasurable. For additional services such as laundry or cooking these are available for an extra charge and should be discussed with us prior to your visit.

Buying food -  if buying groceries in Mérida at one of the large chain grocery stores the vegetables and meats are very good quality and there is a market in the town one mile away where you can purchase other items.

Tap water - this is NOT for drinking but there is purified water coolers in the kitchen for guests use [also purified ice cubes can be purchased locally]. Purified water decanters are provided in all the bathrooms daily.

Safety - Yucatecos are gentle, respectful people and the city of Mérida is removed from the violence of Northern Mexico. The villages outside the city are quiet, small and peaceful the Yucatan.
