The delightful Arrischianti Municipal Theatre, situated in the heart of the old town centre, was built in 1680, but owes its current appearance to renovation work carried out in 1740, and the 19th century addition of stucco. It is a perfect example of a traditional small 18th century Tuscan theatre, with its time-honoured ties to the local Theatre Academy. The Arrischianti (Daredevils) Theatre Academy is still going strong today with the "Nuova Accademia", bringing the theatre to life with an array of performances.

Cetona is rated one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and is a well-preserved mediaeval town, It surrounds a hill where the rocca (fortress), containing a square tower (ca 900 AD) and an inner fortress wall, is located. This rocca became known as the Scitonia castle. Cetona became a favorite of the trendy set in the Italy of the 1960s. This happened thanks partly to its geographical location halfway between Florence and Rome on the Autostrada del Sole but also because of the attractiveness of the town itself and the beauty of the surrounding countryside. Cetona remains popular - the clothing designer Valentino owns a palazzo here - and although it is off the tourist circuit the shops are good and it's a pleasant place to visit.

The annual Giostra del Saracino takes place every August 15th.The climate of the "Tournament" begins when the transport of the earth in the square and the assembly of ther public galeries start. On the 11th August in Bargagli Square te "tratta dei bossoli" happens, preceded by the parade of the "Contrada"; in the square they extract starting order of the five "contrade".
After the extraction there are: fireworks, middle ages songs, exibition of the drumers of the flag-wavers. The day before the "Giostra" on the 14th August at three o'clock it starts the historic train with captains, ladies, knights and ox cart. Then there is a show in which they play with the flags, then there is the blessing of horses and at the end the "start". At this point the crowds break out a shout and the players, on horses, compete for the victory by thursts at the ring. The players on their horses have to thread their own spear in a small ring placed on the "Buratto"'s shiled. The 9 paneled scallop shell shaped piazza is one of the finest medieval city squares in Europe, really worth a visit. Along with its magnificent cathedral and marble inlaid floor, Siena’s Il Campo is a stirring, vibrant central square enticingly shaped like a scallop shell. The summer heat pushes groups to the shaded edges, the shadows of the dominant Palazzo Publico and 100 metre bell tower (Torre del Mangia) offering welcome relief. Il Campo is the location of the famed and wild Il Palio horse race (conducted twice a year since medieval times) in honour of the Virgin Mary.I love the way the piazza is used like a park’s lawn, people sitting in small groups on the pastel pink paving to enjoy a chat, a bite to eat or to soak up the rich history of Siena.

The unfinished walls outside the right side are still visible, for sure worth a visit.

When Antonio and Iris Origo bought the estate of La Foce, they engaged the English architect Cecil Pinsent. The garden grew gradually, between 1925 and 1939. The house is surrounded by a formal Italian garden, which is divided into geometrical ‘rooms’ by box hedges with lemon trees in terracotta pots. Travertine stairs lead to the rose garden and a winding wisteria-covered pergola bordered by lavender hedge. Gentle informal terraces climb up the hill, where cherry trees, pines and cypresses grow among wild broom, thyme and rosemary, and a long cypress avenue leads to a 17th-century stone statue, Really worth a visit. The necropolis of Pianacce at Sarteano is one of the best examples of Etruscan wall painting of the 4th century BCE. The necropolis, situated 1 km south-east of Sarteano, was first investigated in 1954 by G. Maetzke who discovered two tombs on the site. One of these was a monumental tomb with a 27 m long dromos and four chambers. They were only part of a vast cemetery area which occupies the entire rocky ridge at the end of the Sartiano plateau facing towards Cetona. The tomb was called of the "Quadriga Infernale" (Infernal Quadriga) because of the disturbing painting representing the god Charun, with his wild fangs and reddish mane, driving a flying chariot. Visits to the tomb take place every Saturday and have to be booked in advance at the museum desk.

The tasting room equipped with kitchen and, it goes without saying, the most stunning views of the valley. After the delicate foot treading phase, into the fermentation vats then onto a lovely room with a low-vaulted ceiling in cotto toscano that houses the wooden barrels, then bottling and labelling area, and the farm outbuilding.
