Santa Gertrudis | Ibiza

This charming village lies on the geographical middle point of the island, and is very aptly a much loved meeting point for both locals and adopted! At the geographical heart of the island, the village of Santa Gertrudis is Ibiza in microcosm. Steeped in tradition, its main square houses the whitewashed church and a cluster of bars, restaurants and shops, whilst in the rich agricultural landscape all around, live sheep, goats and the island's only dairy cows. It is also a home from home for many new residents from Europe and beyond who have brought a different, can we say Bohemian .. style of living to the village. Many artists, sculptors and musicians have settled here over the years and their works are everywhere – in galleries and most famously in the Bar Costa where penniless artists in the hippy era would swap paintings for food and now hanging art competes with hanging hams for space! Santa Gertrudis has expanded rapidly but carefully over the last few years. Smart modern villas now line the new streets, the village square has had a makeover and is now a pedestrian friendly plaza and new, hip café bars and restaurants have joined traditional Ibicenco establishments.

Patron Saint's Day | Santa Gertrudis

If you are after some good Ibiza-style traditional festivities then Santa Gertrudis is also the place to head in mid November. The village honours its Patron Saint, Santa Gertrudis but of course, festival celebrations always stretch out for as long as possible on Ibiza! To include sports competitions, chess and ludo championships, animation shows, live music and DJs, together with plenty of communal feasting it is a great event.

Caves | Ibiza

Explore this ancient limestone cave nestled inside a cliff in Port de San Miguel de Balansat - travel across the underground lakes and see these spectacular formations. At over 100,000 years old, the cave of Cova de Can Marçà is a place of great historical significance for Ibiza. Cracks in the rocks allowed seeping water to carve out the Cova de Can Marçà and created the calcified buildup of stalagmites and stalactites inside.

Beaches | Ibiza

Aigua Blanques
When it is calm, it is simply a stunning turquoise. Aigua Blanques is also an official nudist beach.
Cala Bassa
Gets pretty busy in high season, but it has the added attraction of rock pools and the possibility of chilling in the shade of the Sabina trees that back the beach.
Cala Xarraca
Look at that clear turquoise water! Small beach, Cala Xarraca is the place for underwater lovers, with excellent scuba conditions. It also has a mud bath if you fancy a free facial!
Cala Benirrás
By day this is great for snorkelling and swimming, but Benirrás Beach is more famous for its evening entertainment.
Cala d'Hort
This is part of the National Park, created to safeguard it against tourist development. You will see why they were so keen to preserve this scenic spot!
Cala Vadella
This is a family friendly beach of the highest order with lovely white powder sand sloping down to a shallow, sheltered bay with all the amenities to keep everyone happy on a day at the beach.
Sa Caleta
With its unorthodox looks Sa Caleta is a bit different from most of Ibiza's tourist beaches. You get to it by a wooden walkway through red sandstone cliffs that protect it from the breeze, meaning it is a perfect sun trap!
