Earth Pyramids I Italy

If you are up for little trip to Bolzano’s Hausberg Ritten, it is definitely interesting to see the famous Earth Pyramids. The raw material for the earth pyramids comes from moraine clays deposited by the main Eisack valley glacier, as well as local tributary glaciers, in the late ice age. There are several earth pyramids on the Ritten and you can find the paths online.

Mountain museum I Itlay

A clash of Tibetan and South Tyrolean culture and architecture. One could imagine many ways this experiment could go wrong aesthetically wise. Not at the MMM. It is truly a magical! Not only because the castle is already in a great spot overlooking the whole city, but the mix of these two cultures has made it even more peaceful and interesting. The museum is worth visiting as well; even if you are not into climbing.

Swimming & Spa I Italy

Swimming & Spa I Italy

Terme & Swiming Even though Bolzano is not located near the sea, there is plenty of spots to relax and take a refreshing dip. The most famous probably are the Terme di Merano (above) by architect Matteo Thun. On the other side of the region in Bressanone there is the Aquarena, which just like the Terme has both a public swimming pools inside and outside and sauna landscape with different sauna infusions almost every hour.  Those two places often might be very crowded, especially in the winter and on weekends. For a really relaxing day at the spa we recommend to book a day pass at one of the Wellness hotels. We especially recommend the spa hotel Cavallino Bianco in Nova Levante or the hotel Lüsnerhof in Luson (next page). Luson, being one of the richest communities in South Tyrol, in the summer time also has a great natural pond, usually not as crowded as other places. Also known in South Tyrol are the lakes. Ideal for swimming in the summer time and ice skating in the winter. For example Lake Monticolo, Lake di Fie or Lake Caldaro.

Vinery Lageder I Italy

Since everything that is "biological" is so “on trend” nowadays, companies often don’t really care about nature or sustainability and invent some superficial stuff to make their philosophy look good from the outside. This is the opposite of what is happening here! One of the world-wide leading wine producers Alois Lager has built his company from A-Z  in harmony with its ground and its surroundings. The fact that some of their best wines are stored for months in a cellar with slow motion “Bach” music playing in the background in order to let the wine rest real well is just one example. You should absolutely visit this wonderful place and get a tour and tasting of the vinery

Zinnenberg I Italy

A spectacular location in spring and summer time and open to the public from the end of September until the beginning of November for South Tyrol’s “fifth season of the year” called Törggelen. The time when the new vines are collected and people go for hikes and sit together usually in a Gasthof or “Buschenschank” and eat chestnuts, spare ribs and “Kartoffelplatteln”. If you are up for Törggelen in style, take a trip to the Überetscher countryside, high among vineyards and orchards, and finish up your day in this beautiful mansion from the 15th century overlooking Bolzano. Reservation recommended.
