O Dinis Bar do Pescadores I Portugal

At Carvalhal beach is this unassuming restaurant with its magnificent sandy shoreline setting. Owned by a fisherman, it's the best spot for catch-of-the-day grilled, with a squeeze of lemon. The fish here [especially the sea bass], not just in these restaurants but here in Portugal, is outrageously good - something to do with the chilly depths of the Atlantic. It can be a little choppy, but you can see why surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers flock here at the beginning and end of the season.

Ilha do Arroz I Portugal

Right on the beach dunes of Comporta is the hip and stylish Ilha do Arroz Restaurant & Beach Lounge. You can sit, sip a cocktail and enjoy the pristine white dunes and the blue sea stretch out in front of you! Lunch is a long laid back affair starting at two or three o’clock and kicking off with an iced jug of white sangria fizzing and bright with espumante and sweet strawberries. Local cheeses are followed by calamari, tomato and sweet onion salad, clams in garlic parsley and white wine and steaming plates of coriander scented rice to mop up the cataplana stews.

Museu do Arroz I Portugal

On a quiet stretch of Portuguese coast with sweeping vistas of the paddy fields this restaurant is housed in a former rice husking mill, the Museu do Arroz feels like an extension of De Carvalho’s home [the owner who started out as a programmer for Texas Instruments and IBM in Europe before moving to Brazil and becoming an interior designer]. This is the epicentre of Comportas social scene with a lounge area filled with overstuffed velvet couches this is upscale dining.  A popular destination and perhaps the best gastronomic choice on the Setúbal Peninsula that [would recommend the excellent salt cod fritters!] This is the smarter sister to the more relaxed Ilha do Arroz also owned by De Carvalho.

Gastronomy I Portugal

The most distinctive feature of Portuguese cuisine comes from the sea. As you enjoy a simple grilled fish, always fresh like the seafood that abounds from end to end along the coast, you can be sure that you are in Portugal! Cataplanas, bouillabaisses and any other fish or seafood dish are also excellent choices. For meat dishes, our main suggestion is cozido à portuguesa, a mix of meats, vegetables and various sausages, cooked in a delicious way.
